Posting to Moodle Discussion Forums
There
are two types of Moodle Discussion tools--the Forum and the Advanced
Forum. For students, they will each work much the same way. You just might notice two different icons
are used. Most graded forums will be set up as
Advanced forums (the bottom icon to the right), but it depends on the
instructor.
-
If you see a discussion in your course, click the link to view the
instructions provided by your instructor. Some instructors might post an
initial discussion that you are to read and reply to. Most will
provide instructions at the top of the page and require you to make a
new post.
- To make a new post, click the [Add a new discussion]
button.
- First, you are required to give the discussion topic a subject.
- Next, click in the Message box and type your response.
- If you want to use formatting, click on the "Use advanced
editor" link in the bottom right corner. You can use the
formatting toolbars to format your text.
- You can choose to subscribe to
the posts (which will send you email messages of any replies).
- If set up
by your instructor, you may be able to add attachments.
- When you are
done, click the [Submit] button.
To reply to another discussion posting, click on the discussion posting
name in the list to read it. Then click the Reply link
in the bottom right corner of the discussion you want to reply to. If a
posting already has replies, be careful to click the reply link for the
posting you are commenting on, not someone else's reply.
